Star Plus Star takes a dig at TRAI, wants telcos to share rev with OTT players for driving data usage

Having created their digital content platforms, television broadcasters in India are worried about having to pay carriage fees to internet service providers. Taking a dig at the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Star India said that there seems to be a clear suggestion in the consultation paper that it is the duty of the regulator to guarantee the revenues of the telcos. Instead of looking at the issue from the consumers’ point of view, there seems to be an inclination to try to protect incumbent and, in many cases, outdated revenue streams of the telcos, Star said. Star also suggested that the government should mandate multi-system operators (MSOs) to provide two-way connectivity and bind them to compulsory provisioning of broadband as part of licensing conditions

Atleast this time what Star is saying is truth.....Its because of OTT players & then users, TSPs are getting business....But some like Airtel want to just push for their own profit by lobbying with Trai / Govt...

I think few years back, ISPs in US asked Google to pay for the traffic generated by its services like Youtube & also petitioned FCC that because of Google their n/w is throttling & they have to invest more.....Google instead said that because of these services, ISPs are getting more business....

Google's claims are right without Google, net is of no use.

Infact every given day we're investing our data pack on updating software in Android so from searching to updating our 80% data pack finishing on Google only.

OTT is not growing like it should have and telcos are already coming forward to kill it. We are already paying these idiots for their data then why the hell they want revenue share.
