A pack of stray dogs bit a seven-year-old boy to death after he accidentally fell on one of them while playing at a graveyard near his house in the Okhla area of southwest Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the boy, Mamun, was atop a mound of sand with his friends when he tripped and rolled down on a dog. The startled animal started barking at him, attracting other dogs towards the boy. Before he could get up, one of the dogs had caught him by the neck.
Mamun's friends said they pelted stones at the pack but the dogs dragged the boy into a pit and bit him on his neck and the back of his head. The boys ran back to call his parents, who rushed to the spot and found the child lying unconscious, in a pool of blood.
Mamum was the son of a rickshaw-puller, Sabir Ansari. The family live in a slum at Gaffar Manzil colony. After returning from school, he had gone to a graveyard in a wooded area near his house to play with his friends.
