Sun TV in talks with content producers to cut their ad time

Squeezed of inventory due to ad cap regulation, Sun TV Network has decided to bring down the commercial airtime that it provides to its content producers.

The Kalanithi Maran-promoted company is in negotiations with its content providers to cut their advertising time to below four minutes per half-hour show. In the 12-minute per clock hour ad regulation regime, Sun TV will reserve the remaining commercial time for its own sales team to exploit.

Unlike other private television broadcasters, Sun TV auctions slots to content producers for a price. In lieu of this, the slot buyers are given a maximum of four minutes of airtime to sell for their half-hour show. Since Sun TV has increased ad rates, the company believes that its content producers would not suffer as they would be able to earn more by selling less airtime.
