Disney India will axe its Bollywood news and entertainment channel UTV Stars. Replacing it will be a pure-play music channel called Bindass Play, a source familiar with the development said.
Incidentally, this will be Siddharth Roy Kapur’s first strategic move in the broadcasting space since he took charge of Disney India as managing director on 1 January.
Disney plans to launch Bindass Play on 1 October, the source said. The company recently got the approval from the government, he added.
Disney is building the Bindass brand in India. It already runs a youth entertainment channel by that name, airing shows and music.
