Dragon Ball dominance bro all over world
In an interesting development, Dragon Ball Super is now tied with One Piece in the Japanese TV ratings for popular anime shows.
Specifically, both Dragon Ball Super and One Piece are tied with an average household rating of 6.2, with Dragon Ball Super now holding 6th place in the rankings.
This is a big deal for Dragon Ball Super, as while both series often make the top ten the fact Super is now on a par with such an established and long running series as One Piece cannot be ignored.
Much of this ratings bump might also be down to the latest episode where both Goku and Vegeta fuse to become Vegito in order to fight Zamasu in the new Future Trunks arc (shown below).
In that sense, this may just be a blip as a major narrative arc comes to an end. However, in the coming weeks it will be interesting to see if Super can retain this momentum with Japanese TV audiences.

The fact that Western fans now have ready access to Super, via various streaming services, is also something that will also help the series in a global sense. Not to mention Funimation’s forthcoming wider English dubbed release.
However, while the global accessibility is clearly important in Dragon Ball Super’s future, its domestic success in Japan is something that has far wider ramifications.
For now though, Dragon Ball Super is
doing better than it has been for a good while and that is good news for the series and Dragon Ball fans.
