Though rainfall was moderate on Thursday, the situation of water stagnation at residential areas and agricultural lands saw little improvement in Cuddalore district. Roads to some villages in Kurinjipadi block submerged in water cutting off the villages from main roads.

Flood water eroded a part of the road at a point near Sethiathope crossroad. As this place falls on the Chennai-Kumbakonam road, the eroded road is posing threat to the vehicles at night.

Roads at Maruvai and nearby villages were seen with fast flowing of rain water. Flood in Paravanar is escalating as the water from this river inundated hundreds of acres of agricultural lands in Kurinjipadi taluk. R Rain-gauge data has indicated that Cuddalore town received about 13 centimetre rainfall on Thursday. Vanamadevi received 92 mm rainfall, Panruti got 83 mm, Kothavacherry recorded 77 mm, Annamalai Nagar recorded 71 mm and Chidambaram received 60.40 mm rainfall. As more rainfall is expected in coming days, schools and colleges were declared holiday on December 4 by the district collector S Suresh Kumar.

Collector S Suresh Kumar said “About 68,000 people are presently staying in the temporary shelters at 69 places. Food for them is being prepared at 48 centres in the district.”
