Hello.

I know there are plenty of DTH comparison threads here already and I went through a fair number of them before creating this one. I did not find answers to several of my own questions in any of them, so please help me out here.

I bought a Vu 40-inch HD LED TV off Flipkart during the Big Billion Days sale (for ₹20,000) and it came with an offer that I could buy an Airtel DTH HD+ recording box for ₹800. I currently have a Tata Sky+ HD box in my home that is used by the rest of the family, none of whom watch any English content. We’re currently paying for the Supreme Sports Kids pack and HD access.

These are my requirements:
  • The maximum amount of HD English language content possible (infotainment, movies, news, television, video on demand) for the minimum annual price.
  • The ability to pause and rewind live television.
  • The ability to record stuff remotely, through a mobile app and the web.
  • A universal remote.
Given these requirements and our current setup, which service would you guys recommend for us?

I’m leaning towards Airtel due to the discount I’m eligible for, but is this particular box worth going for? I’ve read in some places that boxes that connect to external storage are not nearly as fast as the ones with internal storage, and that makes sense from a technological perspective as well. I definitely don’t want to be stuck with a crappy, slow box just because of a discount offer. So should I then go for Tata Sky instead?

I did a rough, back-of-the-envelope calculation and it looks like the combined annual payment for our two Tata Sky connections would cross ₹10,000 per year, which seems awfully expensive (damn near unaffordable, in fact). Is it really the best option? Should I eschew the discount but still go for the Airtel box with built-in recorder?

As you can see, I’m quite confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

answers A) - tata sky is having maximum no. of hd channels in english languages including all the premium ones. but the prices r high. infact very high.
B) Adtv - hd+boxes is having this facility. but not 4 the live television. first u need to record n then u can watch live n pause. no dth is proving the pausing option 4 live television.
C) No dth is providing this.
D) adtv gives u an universal remote.

one policy of adtv is good that u can go 4 minimum base pack + all hd channels (26 hd channels) as hd add on.
no concept of hd access fee. but go 4 tata sky. it costs u 200 rs extra per month but its a worth. also adtv ll take atleast 1 year more to add all the remaining hd channels but tata ll add them as n when they ll b launched.

Thank you. Airtel’s website is quite confusing. What is the best way to find out which channels I am getting for how much money?

I know that Tata Sky definitely provides this facility. Which DTH are you using? Can someone else please confirm that none of the Airtel boxes provide this facility?
