i think only the patches would be free and incase of new software package it would cost.

Yup. If they introduced some addition feature that would certainly be chargeable.
Wonder what they can develop & show in each & every version of Windows every 2-3 years.....May be that means development of WIndows is at peak & further innovation is not much possible....
So atleast now one can hope that Microsoft would develop a completely bug free OS over a period.....instead of launching different OS for commercial reasons every 2-3 years....
So this almost confirms that yearly service charge or royalty will be taken from WIndows customers....

I think Microsoft moved in the fundamentals of Android.
Still features in basic paid OS are not available and we needs to purchase by paying extra.
But seems like after the success of Android, Windows attracted with a open source concept a lot by becoming partner company with manufactures and ISP they might earn a lot many with what the used to be selling OS.
Seems like now they're ready earn from internet companies for updates.
