MNS threatened to beat up Pakistani artists if they did not leave the country within 48 hours.

In wake of the Uri terror attacks, the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has demanded that Pakistani artistes leave India immediately in 48 hours and warned them of physical attacks if they did not comply.

On Friday, MNS leader Ameya Khotkar, who is an office bearer of the party's cine workers wing, charged that after the killing of 18 Indian soldiers in the Uri attacks, Pakistanis had celebrated this on social media. "We do not want to see Pakistani actors perform on TV in Maharashtra and Hindustan," he added, warning these artistes to leave India immediately in 48 hours, failing which they would be attacked physically.

He added, "Pakistani kalakaar toh maarkhaayenge hi, saath mein jo yahanproducer, director hain unko bhipeetenge. (Pakistani artists will be beaten up but we will also attack producers and directors here

He also declared that they would not allow movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Raees to be released since they starred Pakistani actors. "We have enough talent here," said Khopkar, opining that Indian artistes be given an opportunity in television and movies.

"For many years, Pakistan has fomented trouble in the country, Mumbai and Maharashtra. We do not agree with allowing Pakistani artistes to work here in these circumstances," said Khopkar, adding that they did not want to gain any political mileage out of this.

Like it's political adversary the Shiv Sena, the MNS too is known for its vitriolic opposition to cultural and sporting ties with Pakistan considering the country's role in fomenting terrorism and organised crime in India.

Shiv Sena MP from South Mumbai and spokesperson Arvind Sawant said that the Sena was the first to put its stance about Pakistan and had disrupted events by Pakistani actors. "Our stance is not a political one but a nationalistic one," he said.

The party had forced a book store to withdraw works by Pakistani authors and had also objected to a sweet shop which carried the name Karachi.
