RN3 was launched with lollipop without any promise for Marshmallow. Yet they updated it. The device was originally launched in 2015. More over same thing will happen with RN4 next year. Though users of RN3 will get MIUI9 and probably 10 too.

It looks like all the devices which will not be getting nougat momentarily are being pushed with this update because my mom and dad' redmi 3s got this too. Also the above link I have shared might have incorrect information since it mentions redmi note 4 will get 7.0 and some others getting 7.1. RN4 beta is already on 7.1 so RN4 getting 7.0 is out of question.
