Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd’s (ZEEL) free-to-air (FTA) channel Zee Anmol has rushed to the No. 2 spot in the Hindi GEC hierarchy, behind only Star Plus.

Zee Anmol saw a surge in viewership, according to BARC data for the week ended 23 October.

Colors lost its second rank and stood at No. 3. DD National was the other big gainer in Week 42.

The pubcaster jumped two spots to be No. 5, as per BARC’s All India (Urban + Rural) data for Hindi-speaking markets (HSM).

The channel gained on the back of the India-South Africa cricket series.

It displaced Star India’s FTA channel Star Utsav, which fell to the seventh spot due to a fall in viewership.

Star Plus continued to maintain its lead in the genre while Zee TV and Life OK maintained their fourth and sixth positions respectively.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET), SAB and Rishtey remained at eighth, ninth and tenth spots respectively.

Data is collected based on meters installed at the homes of selected customers. Earlier TAM did not have such meters in rural areas, BARC has it.

To record viewing pattern, a button needs to be pressed on the remote which inturn evaluates the data. Everytime a person sits to watch tv, he or she has to press it and then while switching off tv again press it to switch off the meter
