Whose property is the Set Top Box?

If I buy an Airtel dth, will Set Top Box become my property or will it be on a lease? Customer care said it will become mine. Can anyone confirm as the customer care people didn't seem knowledgeable about it? What if I buy a Siti Cable? Will Set Top Box be my property after paying 1500 rs for it?

The terms and conditions in the rule book of all DTH companies says STB and the smart card are the property of the operator. It's given to the user on rent/hire

I have read on the internet that only Airtel keeps asking for CPE if connection is not active. Cable is always good choice for me. Costwise cable is cheap atleast as of now.

A DTH company will come up with the similar list favouring DTH .Finally it just boils down to user preference .
