Breaking News Zee plans to launch a GEC for Kerala market, i.e. Zee Malayalam

I guess that Zee will launch a purely new channel, Zee Malayalam instead of acquiring any existing channels like Zee Tamil, Zee telugu, Zee Kannada.

Zee's Tamil Telugu & Kannada has been there for over a decade now.
zee has good understanding of South Market, so to start with even adaptation of concepts and stories won't be a big task.

Not necessary, ZEE has original contents in Tamil, Telugu & Kannada so Malayalam won't be any difference. Concepts and story could be borrowed but Dubbed contents seems difficult.

Investing in original contents in Malayalam is very difficult since Zee may not able to crack deal with production houses.

Zee guys made their mark in highly localized competition in Tamil & Telugu market so Malayalam won't be a problem. They have deep pockets so cracking deal with production houses won't be a challenge. Even buyout of an existing production house is possible. As it is all 4 south geners are interconnected in terms of technicians, studios, etc.... So time will tell what's in the cards...
But yes zee had even got licence for Zee malayalam in past. There were similar announcements over 2-3 times in the past which did not work out. As latest as 2016 it had expressed interest in inorganic growth in Bhojpuri n Malayalam market. Bhojpuri happened via Big Ganga but Malayalam didn't take off.

Isn't that common for all Regional Gecs including Hindi ones.
Apart from prime time and afternoon slot all other time it's just repeat or movies.

Except nandhini on sun t.v. the rest of the shows are original program in spite of who watches or not. Except zee Tamil, star vijay and next Tamil rest air news abreast thrice a day on GEC
