Every new customer buying any New LCD/LED or HD STB/DVR always keeps Future Ready Factor into mind.
Because having Branded LEDs in sizes 32,40,46 inches etc Cost comes more than 30K+, same is applicable to STB/DVR as cost goes upto 3,4/5K+(If multiconnection).

If at all I'm planning to buy in today's time I check with market standards era and Future ready aspects as my HDTV & HD STB/DVR investment goes further next 10 years and 5 years for both these products respectively.
So here my view will be to wait for next 2 years to avoid such Non-Future ready heavy investments considering the continuous changing technological trends in market.

Now seeing the Bandwidth aspects and Cost of talked technology we need to wait for next atleast 1-1.5 years.Because these all DTHs(n Broadcaster's too) major goal is to make business Only by spending time in years with the rate of "Tortoise" irrespective of Demand of customers and changing high Technological era.

The Fact is If we see Only Ultra HD-4K LEDs coming within next 2 years, then all DTH must have to think beyond current Trend.

Once the SD & HD channels required bandwidth reduced by half, then it's possible without adding any transponder.
Dth ops forced to move to latest compression technology & transmission. Otherwise they can't add more channels. Because the satellite availability is very difficult & expensive.
For example Tatasky adopted MPEG 4 by spending 1000 crores. For them transponder is costly & availability is difficult.
It will take less time only for MPEG 4 to HEVC, compared to MPEG 2 to MPEG 4.
So with the current TP space DTH ops able to add More than 1000 SD channels (you can calculate the SD+HD+UHD combination also) with HEVC

Dish tv they adopted MPEG 4 for their HD transmission, they didn't used MPEG 2
Once they face space crunch they will follow tatasky policy by converting SD channels also to MPEG 4.
In this view Once DTH ops face space issues with current MPEG 4 compression ,they will force to move HEVC to increase channel count & revenue.
As per HEVC road map UHD channels will roll out from mid of this year on wards in worldwide.
After two years in India also we can see the UHD channels. Wait for the next big event like world cup. Then the TV manufactures will support DTH ops for UHD to boost their sales.
Hope for the best

As per industry reports around 250 crores are spending by lg for the promotion of 4k tv. They are believing India is ready for 4k. They planned last year festive season 1000 tv , this year samsung , sony & lg are reduced the prices by half & expecting more sales.
Most probably tatasky will be the 1st dth in India to introduce UHD channel. Now they selected the STB manufacturer, who is having HEVC STB in their product line up.
One of the banglore based tata group company is masters in this latest compression standard.
Dth ops are having savings in terms of Transponder. By adopting this technology HD channels requires only 2.5 to 3 MHz & UHD 10 to 15 Mhz.
Current full HD (1080p) equals future UHD with HEVC & DVB S2X

Technicolor is to provide volume supplies of 4K-enabled set-top boxes to Indian DTH pay TV provider Tata Sky early next year – the first time a 4K box has been shipped in volume, according to Technicolor.
