Any way to get 3G speed in AirTel with 2G recharge?

I activated 3G for Rs.23 valid for 4 days, very next day I recharged for Rs.247 for 3 GB unlimited 2g pack. Both packs began showing separately on my pack. I could toggle between 2g and 3G - got 2g speeds when toggled to 2g and 3G speeds when toggled to 3G. Data balance got deducted from respective packs.
Once the 3G pack got over last night , I was astonished to see the AUTO connect option giving H+, however the speeds were not of 3G , but slightly better than 2G.

I think as all are using 2G, the tower sometimes cann't provide more data speed so if mobile is 3G enabled then it uses data optimized 3G to provide more speed......But I found sometimes on busy network 3G on mobile may drop phone connection....
Btw how to change 2G/3G bands on Android phone....

go to the data settings, there check or uncheck UMTS or 3G..
