Morne Morkel signs two-year Kolpak deal with Surrey | Cricbuzz.com

Surrey have signed South African fast bowler Morne Morkel on a two-year Kolpak deal, the club confirmed on Tuesday (April 10).

Morkel played his last Test match for South Africa in their 492-run victory over Australia in Johannesburg last week after announcing ahead of the four-Test series that he would retire from international cricket. In the third Test in Cape Town, Morkel took his 300th Test wicket, becoming just the fifth South African to reach the landmark.

A left side strain sustained in the Johannesburg Test means Morkel will not make his debut for Surrey in their opening Championship match of the season against Hampshire at the Oval beginning on April 20, and it remains to be seen when he will be fit enough to take the field. A similar injury to the same left side at the start of South Africa's home summer ruled Morkel out of action for eleven weeks although it is not thought to be as severe this time.

Once returned to fitness, he will be available for all the county's matches in the County Championship, the One-Day Cup and the T20 Blast and becomes the latest in a growing contingent of South African players who have signed Kolpak deals with English counties in recent seasons following the likes of Hampshire's Kyle Abbott and Essex's Simon Harmer.

India to host Asia Cup 2018 in UAE

The six-team biennial event will be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 13 September to 28 September.

India will host Asia Cup 2018 in the United Arab Emirates after a unanimous decision was made to that end during a meeting of the executive board of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Tuesday, 10 April.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement also confirmed that tournament would revert to the one-day format. The previous edition in 2016 was a T20I tournament, largely to facilitate teams’ preparations for the ICC World T20 2016 that followed.

"The ACC Board unanimously approved the staging of Asia Cup 2018 in the U.A.E between September 13th-28th, 2018," the BCCI release stated. "India will be hosting the upcoming marquee event of Asia in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.”

The 2018 edition will be a six-team affair and will be played in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 13 September to 28 September.

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are the Full Member sides, and they will be joined by the winner of the Qualifier tournament, with Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman, Nepal, UAE and Malaysia set to fight it out for the final spot.

The ACC board also decided that a few matches of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup would be held in Pakistan, with Sri Lanka hosting a majority of the tournament.

India are the current holders of the Asia Cup after their defeat of Bangladesh in the finals two years ago in Dhaka.
