Cable TV consumers in villages across Goa are likely to stare at blank screens after December 31, 2015, as of digitization of cable TV will mean a shutdown of the present system working on analogue signal.
With barely nine days for the deadline, cable operators face a herculean task of ensuring that thousands of their consumers install set top boxes (STB) sto be receptive to the digital signal.
"People will miss not only the entertainment channels, but also the local news channels which they like to watch for news," says Roland Martins, co-ordinator GOACAN.
GOACAN has petitioned North Goa collector Nila Mohanan and South Goa collector Sachin Shinde to convene an urgent review meetings to oversee the implementation of the digitization of cable TV as the deadline is extremely close.
The municipal areas are included in phase III of the programme, but, Goa is facing a queer situation, as ministry of information & broadcasting website has included panchayat areas erroneously in municipal areas.
The task of installing settop boxes is difficult for thousands of consumers in the north and south districts.
