Discussion : Censorship in Indian Television

The main issue with English Movie and GEC here is the amount of censorship.
They censor even unoffensive words which is a real turnoff.
Unless our government relaxes its stands with regards to its stupid censorship, people will still prefer watching original content from the web which is uncensored

I differ. Not everyone is having issue with this censorship. Offensive words may be acceptable to you, but others may have a different view. Also, not all programs are having this issue significantly. Perhaps, You tend to watch shows which are full of curse words.

Especially the muted words in sitcoms make it unwatchable

I differ. You can easily watch any program without these offensive words - mostly curse or vulgar words - being explicitly pronounced. Most of the time you can easily guess that word. So, It is not at all important for watching any story or program. There could be decent persons like me who are thankful that such cursing and vulgar words are not pronounced and heard in our drawing rooms. Your mileage may wary.

I think we should wait another 24 hours to know whether there is any censorship or not? If they're going to show it according to American timings, then most of these programs will lie after 10:00 Pm. So there won't be much censorship required.

apart from the cursing/vulgar words, does the word "butt" is crass? and also the mute is kind of disturbing the flow

They censor words like muslim, mosque etc.I am okay for them censoring cuss words but they do a lot of unnecessary censorship.
Those who want uncensored content will always prefer the web version.

This is the problem with Indian broadcasting guidelines. religious correctness and sensitivity. Even, this week's Kenya massacre is titled "attack by Islamist extremists" in BBC but all newspapers use only "terrorists". Live with this as an Indian.

I have mentioned only a couple of words .If you read posts earlier there are mentions of non offensive words.
You are okay with censorship and watch censored content on Indian tv and I dont like it and watch it on the web.
Its an individual choice and not everyone has to accept censorship.

Also shows like Spartacus, game of thrones and american horror story are more offensive and contains explicit scenes which would never be shown on TV. Even the Indian version blurays and DVDs censor them heavily.
