Drinking Rail Neer, the bottled water offering from Indian Railways, could give you an upset stomach and other gastrointestinal diseases. Worse still, Rail Neer is now the only packaged drinking water available at train stations after the CBI's raids last month in New Delhi.

Samples of Rail Neer picked up from Bharuch railway station in Gujarat have failed the tests conducted by the Baroda Food and Drug Authority. Water from the samples was found to be high in aerobic microbial count -- 39 cfu/ml (colony forming units/millilitre) as against the maximum permissible value of 20 cfu/ml.

The sample that was tested at Baroda FDA was collected from a tea stall at Bharuch station. The staion, part of the Vadodara division of Western Railways, is an important halting station for trains bound for Ahmedabad junction, Jaipur junction, Mumbai, Amritsar and Delhi.

The sample was collected by the food and safety officer of Vadodara division, RC Kutar, on August 23 and the test reports were released on September 14. Mirror has a copy of the test reports.

Has anyone seen the rail neer factory? If anybody does see, he/she won't drink that bottle again. It is situated just besides a big drain in Delhi.

Really. OMG. What the hell is happening to this country. Sometime I feel that instead of criticising everything i should start something from which i can bluff my countrymen and earn billions.

Palur (Chennai):
This is the latest (third) plant set up by IRCTC in 2010. This is located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu . The purpose is to supply safe drinking water to trains and stations in state of Tamil nadu and Banglore in Karnatka.

The plant is being setup on area of 4500 sq mtrs. The building is constructed in such a manner that there is no need of artificial lighting during day time.

The waste water discharge from Water treatment plant has been reduced to 10%. This is achieved by incorporating concepts of Secondary RO in the Water treatment scheme.
