KH today said the movie's release had been postponed to a future date only for his convenience. I was not pressurized by anyone, he said. Addressing reporters in Chennai, 'I will announce the release date of Viswaroopam. No one else can take a decision on this.' 'We want all the versions of the film (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) to release on the same day. Also we would like to give more time for people to subscribe for DTH premiere. So I will soon decide on a release date which is comfortable in all aspects,' KH said.
Stating that some of his friends in the industry requested him to air the movie on DTH platform on the same day of its theatrical release, KH said, 'I will decide on this. I am doing a honest and legitimate trade. No one has the right to stop me from going ahead. I will take legal action on those who threaten me and who try to prevent me from doing this.'

I clearly read somewhere that only 9 theatre were finalized for Premiere. So, he have to cancel the date because of the lesser number if screens.

And now he will again initiate talks with Theatre Associations.

Vishwaroopam to release on DTH and theatres simultaneously


Actor-director Kamal Haasan said on Wednesday that he is considering releasing his movie 'Vishwaroopam' on both Direct-to-home (DTH) television platform and theatres simultaneously.

"I pushed the release of the movie for my convenience and not because somebody asked me to," said the actor, in a media interaction, a day after both the DTH premiere on January 10 and theatrical release on 11 were postponed due to opposition from distributors and theatre owners.

Haasan said a few industry friends told him that it would be a good idea to release the multilingual movie on the same day on DTH and theatres. "I am thinking about it and if it is good for the industry, I will take advice of industry peers," he said. The delay will also give him and DTH partners time to respond to enquiries from people on how to watch the movie. "Many people didn't know how to book or reach out. There was not enough time before the January 10 release," he said.

Moreover, two Telugu movies and a Hindi movie are slated to release on January 11. A new release date will be announced after discussions with DTH partners and exhibitors who have come forward, he said, adding that action will be taken against those who screen the DTH telecast for big groups.

i thank theatre owners and exhibitors for ensuring me atleast 500 screens on 25th jan for visawaroopam. i also thank theatre owners who understood my optimistic idea of DTH and were ready to screen the movie on 10th jan.

Tamil actor Kamal Hassan’s stoic struggle to release his latest multi-lingual big budget movie Vishwaroopam on DTH ahead of the theatres seems to have failed. The film will now release in theatres on 25 January.

In a press release here today, the actor said that the film will be released in 500 screens across Tamil Nadu. This is the biggest ever Tamil release so far.

However, he hasn’t mentioned anything about the DTH release other than thanking the distributors and exhibitors to have understood his vision of DTH as a new revenue stream.
