Now we might have HBO HD, and would be able to see premier faster.

I don't think they are going to sell the HBO name to Star, if it was so, they would have sold their complete business to Star.

I think they have only handled the distribution to star. Rest everything remains with HBO only.

It will be handing over channels to Turner and STAR India before shutting operations.
From January 1 next year, everything to do with HBO's basic channel - marketing, programming, ad sales and distribution - will be handled by Turner International India. And, from July 1, everything to do with its premium channels HBO Defined and HBO Hits will be handled by STAR India. For all practical purposes, HBO, the firm behind shows such as The Newsroom and Game of Thrones, will cease operations in India and simply licence out its channels.

To use a brand by some other firm, mostly local.

It might be distribution only because recently ZEE TURNER parted their ways so from next year might be Turner seeks help from STAR because they're very strong party and experts with ala carte deals and all that so it might be great chance for Time Warner if they joined the hand together.

Guys, why are you all getting confused? Nothing is shutting down. Its simple HBO is licensing others to do their work. Channels will be theirs , its just that others will take care of its different aspects. For example, if i own a company and i live in London so instead of setting up my own business here using my resources, i am telling say XYZ Company to take care of its operations. Its a simple licensing deal.
