Help to buy Tata Sky

Jon Snow Congratulations on your new connection!

I'm thinking of switching to Tata Sky HD from D2H. Only reason being buggy STB which takes ages to switch ON and sometimes needs a restart :p Poor old chap!

My needs essentially similar to yours: English Ent. (Movies + Generic + Lifestyle), Kids (Disney Channel, Nick & Disney XD are more than sufficient), Sports, English News Channel, Kannada Regional pack with some Hindi Channels.
Let me know how much this new connection cost you and your package details.

Thank you.

Bro, i got HD ultra pack, which includes almost all SD channels and 52 HD channels apart from south channels, cost was ₹1800, ordered online on tatasky site.

Thanks, yo Jon Snow

HD Ultra Pack Sounds nice. That list of HD channels is out of control :)

So here is my understanding so far.

Ultra Plus is the Annual Package - Rs. 8000/- per annum : (385 SD channels + 61 HD Channels + Actve Darshan + UHD 4K Service#)

Ultra South Plus HD - Rs.8400/- : (409 SD channels + 65 HD Channels + Actve Darshan + UHD 4K Service#)

Ultra is a Monthly payment option with Rs. 530/- per month + Rs. 175 HD Access fee which will give me
( 212 SD channels & services + ~52 HD Channels + 4K Service# ) for Rs.705/- per month.

Questions time :D

1. With respect to Ultra Plus packs, is there a need for HD access fee or is everything included? And does it cover SWP HD and other non-sense premier channels?

2. Difference between Ultra Plus and South Plus are four additional HD regional channels? Can I not get just one regional SD pack with Ultra Plus?

3. Monthly option seems viable for me ( I am paying close to Rs.700 on my D2H every month and not that happy with the service) but how much will it cost me for a 2nd connection for the same pack?
Current plan on Videocon D2H is South Platinum HD Rs. 650 + SWP HD (Rs. 60) + Rs. 251 for the 2nd connection
I pay quarterly because I don't trust them with their stupid STB. Replaced two already in two years.
With all the savings, I will, on average will be paying Rs.1001/- per month for two connections.
Does TataSky offer any such deals with a new connection or even existing one. I don't mind paying 1800 for a good, reliable hardware.

Ans 1- Ultra Plus HD pack doesn't need any HD access fee. SWP HD is available in Ultra Plus HD pack.

Ans -2 I would suggest you to go with Ultra pack and select any two free regional pack you want, it will save you a good deal of money, and you will get HD feed of your regional channel packs, if you are on HD-access fee.

Ans-3 I would suggest you to go with annual Ultra pack for new connection, because it comes with free HD access for 12 months. You can get multiroom connection, they will offer the same STB like your primary one, and monthly charges are below 250, I guess. You will get all the channels of your primary connection on your secondary one.

Answer 1: On every new connection HD access fee will be free, monthly or annually, yes i already got SWP HD in HD ultra pack.

Answer 2: you have to choose one regional pack on free of cost.

Answer 3: on every 2nd,3rd,4th connection in multiple the cost will ₹240 in tatasky, it doesn't matter how much you paying for 1st connection ₹360 or ₹650, and HD access fee only applicable on 1st connection, not all connections, you can also choose annual option in multiple connection.

Thank you for your suggestions, Jon Snow and Teufel

It is clear now. For the first purchase, it is quite a good deal. Saving on 1925 of HD Access fee. And thereafter too Ultra Pack with Annual HD Access fee seems cheaper compared to Ultra HD and Ultra Plus HD pack.

Thanks again :) I will think about it.

Thanks, scorpionking76 :)

I want to negotiate with D2H team, and see if they can give me a free STB replacement by threatening to leave them for good :p
That may not happen, so pray that my boxes just go to sleep once and never wake up :bang:

How many stbs have you replaced so far?

2 on my Primary [ Original was a SD connection so had to replace it with an HD box, then one was really, really, really slow so got it replaced for free, within warranty it was]
Bought a new connection last year, so that one exists and sits pretty too.

I wish they both die, so I could buy a new connection without guilt :)
