A CAG inspection report has indicated that Prasar Bharati’s Rajya Sabha TV has spent Rs 1700 crore in the last four years. This has happened without any revenues generated by the channel in return. The channel went live in 2011. The report states that even before it was operational fully, directors and editors had already spent Rs 60 lakh on travel, according to media reports.

The CAG report findings as quoted in media reports state that : “The CAG inspection report says the channel doesn't have a roadmap, while questioning the very relevance of a separate channel for the Upper House of Parliament.”

Rajya Sabha Television rubbishes charges of Rs 1,700 crore expenditure in 4 years

Rajya Sabha Television today rejected as "baseless" allegations that it has spent Rs 1,700 crore in four years.

"It is categorically stated that the total expenditure was only Rs 146.7 crore in the said four years, i.e. 2010-2014, inclusive of salaries, rentals, capital cost and operational expenses. The figure of Rs 1700 crore is only a figment of imagination," it said in a release.

The release further said that the Finance Ministry has never sent any note expressing displeasure regarding RSTV

The channel also claimed that the viewership of its YouTube channel was over 12 lakh per month and a cumulative viewership of nearly 1.4 crore.

Yes RSTV is better overall compare to LSTV as Hamid Ansari personally taking interest in the day to day working of RSTV.
