Bro, interlaced is encoding, it sound like 1080p but it is not. Only half 1080 horizontal resolution is displayed in a frame. While in 1080p it's always constant 1080p in every second. So in interlaced the data is interlaced to display both vertical and horizontal in one frame, so what you see is shared between vertical and horizontal resolution, while in progressive, it's constant 1080 in horizontal.

I don't know what makes you think theoretically or practically that 1080u is half of 1080p because I never witnessed or felt anything like this while watching them.

You cannot witness it, bro. It's a subjective thing. You will have to dig up into the data to find out why interlaced is inferior to progressive. You can notice difference while watching sports or fast moving stuff which needs more frame every second for smooth viewing.

But why are you going on subjective things when that doesn't concern your entertainment bhai

Subjective things are for technology creator. We just need to enjoy it

Because you cannot define HD by your particular viewing experience, it depends on the screen size, the distance you are viewing from and many other physical factors. Experience is subjective. Technology is fixed and constant.
1080i is interlaced and 1080p is progressive. They have fixed meaning and no matter how your experiences are, they don't change !

I will let you read here yourself. If you find my answers less convincing ;)

Why You Should Watch and Record Video in 720p Instead of 1080i

Bhai you watch TV for technology or entertainment . Theoretically also 1080i isn't half of 1080p

When I can't feel the difference with my naked eyes how does it matter.

Where as I can see a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080i. Isn't this enough instead of going for so big gyans ;)

I watch TV because of technology and for entertainment.
It depends if you need gyan or just watch. ;)

As far as comparing 720p with 1080i on TV is concerned, you should download a better 720p file, uncompressed one. Torrents are often over compressed files.

Progressive scans the whole image before transmitting whereas interlace scans odd or even horizontal lines. @dmajor you need to learn or get knowledge about AR. With or without black bars the ratio is 16:9 subject to camera's lens used.

That's what I was trying to say this all the time. I am talking about the quality which is being broadcasted on TV. And there 720p isn't better than 1080i.
