Haasan's Vishwaroopam fetches over Rs 100 crore

Vishwaroopam, which released on February 7, has fetched Rs 120 crore in just four days Kamal Haasan's controversial film Vishwaroopam may have had a late start after being banned for almost two weeks but it's making up for lost time at the box office. The film, which released on February 7, has fetched Rs 120 crore in just four days and is still running to packed houses in Tamil Nadu.

Rahul Bose, who plays the antagonist in the film, shared the news on Twitter. He wrote: "Just received figures of the all india box office collections of vishwaroopam. 120 crores and counting. Superb!"

He added: "Vishwaroopam's the first film I've been a part of that's made over 100 crores. Congratulatuions to the team and Mr haasan especially!" Kamal Haasan's film faced flak from certain Muslim groups over its alleged offensive content and was banned by the Tamil Nadu government on January 24, a day before it was scheduled to release. The ban was released after a legal battle and when Kamal Haasan agreed to re-edit certain scenes.

On the first day of its release in its home state, the film received a great response and was being screened at some theatres as early as 5 am. Vishwaroopam fetched Rs 5.81 crores in Tamil Nadu the day it released.

Vishwaroopam has also been declared a hit in the US and UK, where it released on the day it was meant to. Vishwaroopam, made a cost of Rs 96 crores, is Kamal Haasan's most expensive film and has been written, directed and produced by the actor who also stars in it with Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur and Pooja Kumar.

Actually, very less no of north Media reported when Dasavatharam crossed 100Cr in around 10 days. Only TOI and Economic times, but both carried interviews from Kamal and Aascar. Now, without that, almost all Medias have publicised this 100Cr news! Finally media woke up!

@bhaskar,
comparing to telugu, tamil has got huge market both in national and overseas market.
This is what really happening in south region.I know Overseas market is better for Tamil but it doesn't mean Tamil movies can do 100cr business.I also agree tamil movies will run strong comparing to telugu in other states.But main minus is Tamilnadu having very less theaters comparing to Andhra.Anyway its not about Telugu or Tamil I am saying it is impossible to reach 100cr mark any south film in present scenario.as far as I know Only Robot did 100cr(140+) business that too in all languages.one main problem in south is we dont have authenticate trade experts in Tamil and Telugu.So for encouraging purpose producers will release these fake figures for good business.in Telugu also many flop movies given very good collections but all are proved wrong.sadly this scenario is very high in Tamil producers giving even for flop movies 100+ cr.Same problem happened in Telugu for Dookudu movie.producers gave fake collections and they said it was a industry hit.IT attacks happened and still the producers roaming to income tax offices.
