Kamal Haasan has come up with a new revenue model for his mega budget project, Vishwaroopam. The rumour is that the actor has made a negotiation worth Rs 50 crores with DTH (Direct To Home) players for releasing the film on TV on 11th January, the day of its theatrical release itself. It will be a onetime release on television and will not be recordable.

It is also heard that the Tamil Theater Owners’ Association are in a deep state of shock and are supposedly threatening to ban the release of Vishwaroopam in theaters. An emergency meeting with Kamal Haasan will be held today and the association looks to sort out the issue.

There are fears amid the theater owners that if this model indeed succeeds, many small films would adapt to this one for extra income.

because of those stupid outdated oldies, home videos in tamil haven't been big. They put cap of 3 yrs for an orig dvd to be released in india.

Kamal Haasan has confirmed at a meeting of producers on Wednesday (Dec 5) evening at Film Chamber in Chennai that his magnum opus Vishwaroopam will be shown on DTH platforms. Kamal has roped in major operator Airtel DTH for the the simultaneous release on DTH along with the the theatrical release.

The DTH premiere will take place 8 hours before the film's first show in theatres prior to the film's release. Airtel DTH operator will work out the finer details of the telecast and its costing. They are planning to rope in other DTH operators, so that the film gets a wide viewing.

Meanwhile the Tamil Nadu theatres are not taking it lying down. They have called for an emergency meeting of the association today and will take a call. Abirami Ramanathan said "We are holding an extraordinary meeting tomorrow to discuss this Vishwaroopam on DTH issue."

It is said that Kamal along with Producers Council and Chamber officials will meet the distribution associations after 7th Dec and explain the rationale. It is the first ever time in the world that a big film is being shown on DTH before its theatrical release.

a ticket in chennai costs max rs.120 so this is more cheaper for family of 4 but im sure this won't happen as the producer's and exhibitor's council shall voice their opinion against this.

DTH is the best way of getting relaxation for mostly users who r working in Offices , also to household women, childrens. Now a days HD has made more Users to watch good adfree channels.
