The main reason is Kamal is not getting much business from theatrical run.even he didnt get proper business from Telugu version also.That is the reason Vishwaroopam is postponed Telugu version.That is the reason he opted to DTH for more business.

• In addition to the four DTH players — Airtel, Dish, Videocon and Reliance Digital – industry sources say Kamal Haasan has signed with Sun Direct too.
• Tata Sky too is pretty much interested in taking the film on board. “We are in talks, and will surely bag the rights,” Harit Nagpal, Managing Director of Tata Sky told Business Line
• President of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Federation, told Business Line that the two bodies will meet in Coimbatore on December 26 to discuss these developments, which will followed by another meeting in Chennai on December 28 to take a final call on this
• Airtel Digital has started accepting bookings for the movie in all the three languages. To book the movie, Airtel DTH subscribers can SMS VISHWA from their Registered Telephone Number to 54325 and an Airtel DTH customer care representative will call back to complete the advance booking formalities.
• The movie would release in theatres on January 11, 2013, it will be premiered on DTH’s Pay Per View at 9:30 p.m. on January 10 in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

So, Vishwaroopam is all set to create History by becoming the 1st Indian Movie to be released on DTH, in fact all DTH Operators

Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatres Association has threatened that none of actor Kamal Hassan's movies will be released, old or new, in any theatres in the state, if he goes ahead with his plan to release his Vishwaroopam on DTH format, before screening in theatres.

In view of Hassan deciding to release Vishwaroopam in DTH on January 10 and in theatres the next day, theatre owners and their representatives across the State met recently to decide their future course of action.

Briefing reporters on the deliberations of the meeting, association general secretary, Paneerselvam said, "Theatre owners have already asked Hassan not to release the film on DTH, which would set a precedent, leading to closure of theatres. The pirated CD and new films shown in Television has taken a toll of audience-attendance in theatres in Tamil Nadu."
