Broadcaster Star India has agreed to give an undertaking to the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to do all future deals with multi-system operators (MSOs) on the basis of reference interconnect offer (RIO) to ensure parity till there is clarity in the matter.
The broadcaster said that it will not negotiate deals with MSOs. The existing agreements will, however, be exempt from the undertaking.
The TDSAT had asked the broadcaster whether it would agree to consider RIO as the only option till there is clarity in the matter.
Star India counsel Rakesh Dwivedi stated that the broadcaster was willing to file an affidavit tomorrow. The broadcaster will also wrap up its arguments tomorrow.
Dwivedi stated that under DAS regulations, broadcasters and MSOs are permitted to negotiate agreements. However, if the negotiations fail, then the MSO has to take the channels on RIO.
Will offer channels on RIO henceforth, Star tells TDSAT | TelevisionPost.com
