Wow. I am surprised to get so many reactions. And it seems like a nice place for a debate ;)

I like(d) playing Pokemon GO, maybe because it is a childhood fantasy that came alive or I am just stupid :) Never mind that, but I don't understand the reason why it should be banned?

Maybe you guys can put your thoughts here - maybe we can discuss it together.

But here is what we will do (I've been wanting to do this for a long time)

1. Put your thoughts straight forward, no beating around the bush. Examples are fine, as long as it helps.
2. Every user/post-er is human being, so let's treat each other like humans.
3. Nothing personal. No abuse/threats or any sort of intimidating tactics to prove your point.
4. Talking about proofs, facts are good kind of proofs, other's opinion is not. I repeat, it's not a fact.
(E.g. Paste a link that suggests or strengthens your point - like for gun control you could bring in stats published somewhere through official endorsements, saying there is a co-relation between gun based violence with increase in gun sales) You catch the drift, don't you?
5. Of course other forum rules apply & anything that I may have missed :)

Let's get this friendly debate up and running.

Why do you think a game like Pokemon GO should be banned in India?

Why do you think a game like Pokemon GO should be banned in India?

1. Because of the controversial and religious egg issue. Although i find it a absurd reason
2. Presently Whatsapp is causing enough accidents in streets if Mumbai. Pokemon will make it worse.
3. App captures lat-log in disguise of game. So, these data if misused or hacked can be a national threat. Terrorist can get Reki of some places through this game.

remaining reasons i need to think upon it.

Controversy is always related to religion, but I don't know what this particular one is though. There are Eggs in this game, but so far I haven't seen it in a way that hurts any religious sentiments. I need some more clarity on why or how this game does that.

Also there is this funny thing, the game has several religious places as Pokemon gyms, where you got to battle against pokemons set by other players. A lot them are visiting places like mosques, temples and churches with this as an excuse which may seem like not the intended way. But people can play the game by being close to it, you don't need to visit the place.

2. Presently Whatsapp is causing enough accidents in streets if Mumbai. Pokemon will make it worse.

This is due to negligence, you can't blame pokemongo, whatsapp, twitter for this. Texting and driving isn't a good combination. Game also displays cautionary messages, obviously people ignore.

This is an issue of privacy and nevertheless an issue. Game requires you to log your location and tracks you too, but other than that it really doesn't use much. Just Lat and longs are not useful unless you map it with something geographical.
It can't leak info of an existing place (however secretive) because that data isn't available with game developers. So if someone breaks into the game servers, they would get info on where the players are using the app but nothing more than what is publicly available.

That's what you think bro. From my point of view, its addiction and not ignorance.

again people addiction and eagerness to catch pokemon will make them so to such places which should not be revealed due to security concern. and other than lat-log visuals too are being captured by the game.

To the third point, there is however a risk. This app attracts players to certain locations, and this data can give an idea as to how many people visit a particular area. There has been incidents in the past where people have been robbed or threatened for visiting a place while playing. It's a risk, which we are terribly neglecting even though the same can be expected from other apps like Maps, property rentals, even apps like Olx or Quickr.
With better security for members of the society this could be avoided but band isn't a solution.

I am sorry, i have to disagree. Agreed that the game is addictive, agreed that you want to tweet constantly, agreed that you need exchange messages immediately as possible but recklessness doesn't have to be only because of addiction to such things.
How is a person behind the wheels, driving supposed to take his focus somewhere else? You should focus on driving.
A driver can put his phone down while driving. He can stop listening music or radio while he is driving. He can stop smoking and keep both his hands on the while driving. All that he can do while driving. The power to choose is given to him, not to the pedestrian or the other fellow driver. If you're driving you need to be responsible.

Things that can be "banned" are the distractions that the driver can't avoid; hoardings on the roadside, too many road signs to confuse you further, dedicated lanes and strictly following them.
I hope you understand my point here. If you think addiction is leading to reckless driving, it is better to not drive and have designated drivers or use public mode.

A bit exaggerated but banning won't solve anything, regulating maybe.

About lat and longs, they are just numbers, coordinates like (X,Y) we used in simple linear graphs. They can't do much recording mine while I play it.
