BTW. Nice explanation Mr.A.N .
But I don't think it happens the same with 16:9 ratio.
Only the picture stretches upward and downwars for full screen viewing. You can check this in VLC media player. It would be better than zooming on TV.

21:9 ratio will always have black bars . because conventional TV is 16:9.

And there is no need to crop it looks best in 21:9. Therefore currently all movies are shown in 21:9 in all channels.
