Recorder Functionality is available in every box it just need software support which d2h and dish provides

Not always. Hardware and software compatibility is also required for many things like Dolby audio, USB recording.

For eg. D2h providing Dolby through HDMI only in selected boxes because of software compatibility issue. Rest all boxes of d2h get Dolby through SPDIF port.
