Already more than 1lakh food packets and 50 tonnes of food have been distributed. More than 100 employees of TVS have been responding to distress calls from company employees, their relatives and others stuck in marooned neighbourhoods. Boats are being used in coordination with police where ever it is necessary.

Chess Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand has become the latest celebrity to help rain-battered Chennai get on its feet by opening the doors of his house for the flood-affected people from the slums near his house in RA Puram.
“Since it was difficult to leave Akhil (Anand’s son) and elderly father-in-law at home and venture out to offer relief and assistance, we chose to open our doors for the affected. Following the first floods, we had close to 20 people, including two pregnant women, from the neighbouring slums staying over at our place,” Aruna, Anand’s wife, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
According to the newspaper, Anand - who is away for the London Chess Classic - may also announce a monetary contribution for the relief fund.
